novaFrit International - History

Nova Pb is a Canadian leader in recycling hazardous wastes and its two long body rotary furnaces are well equipped with modern and very efficient flue gas treatment including after-burner, conditioning tower, dry reactor and filtering capabilities.

After theoretical thermodynamic and laboratory pilot work relating to the recycling of SPL, it was decided to undertake a commercial scale test using the most promising assumption developed during the preliminary tests. This industrial size testing was carried out according to a protocol sanctioned by the Quebec Ministry of Environment and with the cooperation of several aluminium companies.

Following the success of the trials, Nova Pb created NovaFrit International Inc, obtained the necessary permits from the Quebec Ministry of Environment and modified the Line #2 of its Ste Catherine operation to recycle SPL into an engineered amorphous siliceous matrix named CAlSiFrit™ a name derived from its main constituents.

The qualities of this new product have been studied by the Civil Engineering Group of the University of Sherbrooke under the direction of Prof. Arezki Tagnit-Hamou and the results of the intensive testing are available upon request.

A complete engineering proposal is now available from NovaFrit International, to those wanting to recycle the SPL in a robust, economical and environment friendly process.

This engineering package includes:

  • General plant layout
  • Technical presentation of the process
  • Final product features and markets
  • Environmental characteristics of final products, stack emissions, liquid and solid re-circulation, fluorine recovery and mass balance
  • Process operating data
  • List of main equipment and instrumentation complete with proposed suppliers
(supported by flow-sheets and P&ID diagrams)
  • Engineering aspects, construction and erection activities including a time schedule.
